Emma’s Tongue Cancer Charity has made a further donation of Holland Throat Scopes to Wellington Health Service (Bindawalla), in Wellington, New South Wales, donating one scope to the hospital. The Health Service Manager for Wellington, Stephen Dyer, accepted the donation from Emma’s Tongue Cancer Charity on behalf of the health service.
Wellington Hospital is a local hospital consisting of an emergency department and acute ward, serving the local community of Wellington and surrounds. The donation of a throat scope to Wellington Health Service means that clinicians working in this hospital will be able to easily and clearly view any issues or areas of interest in a patient’s mouth or throat and share this with clinicians at any hospital.
For example, this will allow a clinician seeing a patient in Wellington to share a high definition image easily with oncologists and other specialists at Dubbo Health Service for an opinion and advice, or provide near-real time images to a tertiary referral hospital such as Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in advance of a patient transfer to these facilities. As the images can be shared directly from a phone, this allows clinicians at referral hospitals to import images into their eMR systems and incorporate the images directly into the patient’s medical record, improving continuity of care as a result.
Alexandra Butler made the donation on behalf of Emma’s Tongue Cancer Charity, and this donation follows on from an earlier donation to the Western Primary Health Network in February 2022. Alexandra passionately believes that early cancer detection is critical to saving lives, and the introduction of these scopes into the Central West has the potential to significantly increase early detection of pathology within the mouth and throat.
